Studio Vincent Eschalier reimagines a complex of four buildings in a project crafted with transparency. Situated on the street with eclectic architecture and industrial heritage, between the lively neighbourhoods of Saint-Ambroise and La Roquette, this building was originally constructed by the prestigious Gaveau piano factory in the 1850s. The studio takes great care to allow the place’s history to shine through by studying the geometries and perspectives, understanding the existing structure, and harnessing its strengths.
The first building—a new construction—faces Rue Servan. Its facade asserts an industrial style, punctuated by black metal joinery and grounded by a light stone base from the Paris Basin.
The three interior buildings, refurbished, reflect a more intimate approach. Completely reinvented, the interiors feature mineral and light materials to capture the light, highlighting the spaces’ cross-lighting qualities and the structural and technical elements left exposed.
The third building stands out with its roof hosting a pavilion, a true open-air meeting point. This new circulation flow, serving as a workspace and a living space, is entirely made of wood and benefits from green plant installations.
